BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Tippi Hedren says she survived working with Alfred Hitchcock, but her career was another matter.

Hedren’s experience on the famed British film director’s movies “The Birds” and “Marnie” is dramatized in the new HBO movie, “The Girl.”

Hitchcock is portrayed as obsessed with Hedren and cruelly vindictive when the actress rejects his advances.

The 82-year-old Hedren told the Television Critics Association this week that Hitchcock ruined her career, but he didn’t ruin her life.

Hedren says she had to fight to get out of her contract with the director, and she lost roles because of it.

Sienna Miller plays Hedren and Toby Jones portrays Hitchcock in “The Girl.”

It will debut Oct. 20 on HBO.
