Search for armed robbery suspects discontinued

Charleston police have discontinued an intensive search for two armed robbery suspects who were thought to have bailed out of a getaway vehicle this afternoon in the Gadsden Green area.

The suspects are wanted in connection with an armed robbery that took place on Staffordshire Drive about 2 p.m.

Police said four black males in a Chevrolet Trailblazer sport utility vehicle committed the robbery and then drove off. The SUV was seen coming into the peninsula and the occupants bailed out on Ashton Street, police spokesman Charles Francis said.

Two of the suspects were in apprehended in the area. Police also recovered three handguns during the search, Francis said. There were road closures and a heavy police presence in the area from about 3 p.m. until about 6:30 p.m.
