A man wanted for an armed robbery that took place at a West Ashley apartment complex in May was arrested July 24 in Towson, MD by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, Charleston police said Friday.

Demetrius Burks, 20, of Hazelwood Drive, was returned to the area Thursday by the extradition team from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, police spokesman Charles Francis said.

Burks was served with arrest warrants Thursday charging him with two counts of armed robbery and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He is accused of robbing two women who were entering an apartment on North Castle Lane at Castlewood Apartments about 2:50 a.m. on May 3.

Burks is being held in the Cannon Detention Center on $250,000 bail set Friday by Charleston County Magistrate Linda S. Lombard, according to court records.
