Additional Merit Scholarship winners named

Several local students were among more than 2,000 additional winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities.

These Merit Scholar designees join more than 2,500 other college-sponsored award recipients who were announced in late May.

Local students include:

Carlisle J. Dockery, Charleston, Academic Magnet High School, National Merit Davidson College Scholarship.

William H. Read, Charleston, James Island Christian School, National Merit Clemson University Scholarship.

Brett W. Hanson, Isle of Palms, Academic High School, National Merit Rice University Scholarship.

Katherine Balcewicz, Mount Pleasant, Academic Magnet High School, National Merit University of Chicago Scholarship.

Emma M. Bradley, Mount Pleasant, Academic Magnet High School, National Merit Vanderbilt University Scholarship.

Rohan G. Shirali, Mount Pleasant, Academic Magnet High School, National Merit Washington University in St. Louis Scholarship.

John J. Zeringue, Mount Pleasant, Wando High School, National Merit College of Charleston Scholarship.

Marijke E. Kylstra, Sullivan’s Island, Academic Magnet High School, National Merit Vanderbilt University Scholarship.
