MYRTLE BEACH — One of South Carolina’s popular tourist attractions is getting a large screen theater.

A so-called Big-D theater is opening at midnight Thursday at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach.

The theater is operated by the Carmike chain. It allows both regular and 3-D films to be projected on a screen three stories tall and 82 feet wide. Company officials say the resolution is better than high definition and the theater has a state-of-the art sound system.

The theater is the 17th screen at the Carmike complex at Broadway at the Beach.

The film “Total Recall” is being shown at midnight tonight.
