Lake Marion wide receiver Mike Williams commits to Clemson

Lake Marion High School wide receiver Mike Williams verbally committed to Clemson on Tuesday afternoon, becoming the 17th player to commit to the Tigers 2013 recruiting class.

Williams, a consensus four-star prospect, is the third-ranked high school player in the state, according to Rivals.com. The website rates him the No. 37 wide receiver prospect in the country, while Scout.com has him ranked as the nation’s No. 27 wide receiver.

Williams picked Clemson over South Carolina.

“I just felt at home,” Williams told recruiting analyst Phil Kornblut. “I felt wanted there. They were telling me the things I wanted to hear.”

As a junior, Williams caught 65 passes for 1,269 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Williams said he is looking forward to playing in Clemson’s wide-open offense under offensive coordinator Chad Morris.

“They get the ball to their wide receivers,” Williams said. “There are three or five on the field every play, and they are going to throw it.”

Williams is the fourth player from South Carolina to commit to the Tigers for the 2013 class.

After a slow start, the Tigers have picked up 10 verbal commitments since the beginning of June, including the nation’s top-ranked player in defensive end Robert Nkemdiche of Loganville, Ga.

The Tigers’ 2013 recruiting is ranked 13th in the nation by Rivals.com and the No. 12 by Scout.com.
