Car collector day big hit in Charleston
Sunny skies greeted a host of autos and owners that took part the morning of July 14 the National Car Collector Appreciation Day event at Brittlebank Park in Charleston.
Close to 60 vehicles participated in the cruise-in, tied to a countrywide program that celebrates owners and fans of collectible cars. The event was co-sponsored by the Coastal Carolina Region, Antique Automobile Club of America; and Lowcountry A’s Model A Ford club.
“We had 59 registered cars,” said Hugh Hiott, of the Model A club. Highlights included Jack’s Cosmic Dogs Airstream food truck and “beautiful weather with a gentle sea breeze,” he said. Vehicles on display ranged from a 1911 Buick Touring car to a new Chevrolet Corvette. Afterward, the cars formed a line and cruised around town.
“We drove through Hampton Park, then The Citadel and back on Lockwood Drive to the Battery, Market Street and Meeting Street,” Hiott said. “Good time!”
