Summerville man killed in motorcycle accident
Authorities have released the identity of a 45-year-old Summerville man killed in a motorcycle accident Friday in Colleton County.
The Colleton County Coroner’s Office identified him as Irvin Jones of Summerville.
Jones lost control of his Suzuki at about 2:20 p.m. on Cayce Road near the Ashton community, said Barry McRoy, director of Colleton County Fire and Rescue.
The motorcycle dropped off of the roadway in a curve, and the rider was thrown into a ditch, McRoy said. The motorcycle then traveled down the ditch and struck a utility pole.
A passing motorist discovered the accident and called 911. Emergency responders arrived but found the man dead, McRoy said.
Jones’ body was taken to Medical University Hospital for an autopsy. The S.C. Highway Patrol said he was not wearing a helmet.
