Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series: 7 a.m. July 29 at James Island County Park. Now in its 22nd year, this race series consists of five triathlons held throughout the summer. The sprint triathlon features a 0.3-mile swim, a 12-mile bike ride and a 5K run. Spectators welcome. To register, contact Paul King at 881-8872, or go to cprc.com/csts.
Moonlight Mixer: 7-11 p.m. July 27 at Folly Beach Fishing Pier. DJ Jim Bowers of 1340 The Boardwalk will play all of the hottest oldies and beach music classics. Beverages, food, and snacks will be available for purchase. Only 600 tickets will be sold for this event. No refunds or exchanges. Fee: $10/$8 CCR Discount/$10 on-site if still available.

How to Belay: 6-8 p.m. July 31 at the James Island County Park Climbing Wall. Learn to belay in this abbreviated version of our popular Introduction to Climbing class. Pre-registration required. Age: 14 & up. Fee: $12/$10 CCR Discount.
Early Morning Bird Walks at Caw Caw Interpretive Center: 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. July 28. A walk through many distinct habitats will allow the group to view and discuss a variety of birds, butterflies, and other organisms. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-in registrations are welcome. A chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. Fee: $5/Free for Gold Pass Holders
Stand-Up Paddleboard Instructor Certification Workshop: 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. July 28-30 at James Island County Park. This workshop with the certification exam is for the ACA’s L-2 Basic SUP Instructor who teaches students in areas with mild winds and modest tidal currents. Safety, efficiency, and self-reliance for those traveling by SUP in controlled conditions will be emphasized. For more information, visit americancanoe.org. Pre-registration required. Age: 18 and up. God’s Gonna Trouble the Water, Leaving Slavery Behind: Movie at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 28. Watch a film and afterwards, join our cultural history interpreter in a discussion during a walk through the former rice fields at Caw Caw. This film highlights the legacy of the Gullah Geechee communities in coastal South Carolina and Georgia. A registered and paid chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 9 and up. Fee: $6/$5 CCR Discount
Sea Kayak Self-Rescue Skills, Level 3: 9 a.m.-noon July 29 at James Island County Park. Can you recover from an unplanned capsize in rough water? If you’re not sure, you need this class! Self- and assisted rescues and the skills that make these rescues efficient will be covered. Age: 16 and up. Fee: $36/$30 CCR Discount
Explorers Camp, We are Hometown Heroes: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. July 30-Aug. 3 at Wannamaker County Park. Who are the heroes in our local communities? We are! We will help to create a positive environment for all of us as we learn more about being better stewards while we work to complete a project for the park. We also will have the opportunity to meet several firefighters and police officers as an example of those who work diligently to serve and protect our communities. Age: 6-9. Fee: $154/$140 CCR Discount
Little Explorers, Trackers Sly: 10-11 a.m. July 31 at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. Children love playing detective. Encourage them through an investigation of common clues that indicate an animal’s presence in a habitat. Programs are for children ages 3-5 and their registered and paid adult chaperones. Pre-registration required. Age: 3-5. Fee: $5/$4 CCR Discount.
