Seven candidates have filed to run for the Dorchester District 2 school board in the Nov. 6 general election.

Bo Blanton, who has served on the board since 1996, is not running again.

He said the decision was not a difficult one, as he feels it is a good time to step down. He wants to spend more time with his family.

“I’m proud of the time I’ve served on the board, and I’m very comfortable with where the district is going,” said Blanton, 54.

He said he believes the slate of candidates for the nonpartisan, at-large board is outstanding.

It comprises incumbents Lisa Tupper and Barbara Crosby, plus Justin Farnsworth, Sam Clark, Harry Blake, David Dubose and Lewis Smith.
