Angel Oak developer wins in court; opponents plan to keep fighting development
The developers of Angel Oak successfully defended their state water quality permit in court, but the project’s opponents vow to continue the fight.
The state’s Administrative Law Court ruled in favor of the Angel Oak Village LLC and the state Department of Environmental Control, which issued the permit.
Judge John McLeod’s ruling found the developer tried to minimize the wetland impacts to 2.23 acres and “has provided the necessary assurances that water quality in Church Creek will not be negatively or adversely impacted.”
He also cited the developer’s deal with the city of Charleston to help protect the Angel Oak itself, a massive live oak that is one of Johns Island’s landmarks.
