Police investigating two shootings reported overnight
North Charleston police are investigating two shootings early Tuesday that left one person injured and a vehicle damaged.
Dispatchers received a call about 2 a.m. from Samuel Smiley stating his vehicle was shot at on Dorchester Road near Constitution Avenue, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.
Officials from North Charleston and Charleston responded to St. Andrew Garden Apartments in West Ashley to speak with Smiley. Officers observed bullet holes in his vehicle.
Police found several shell casings in the road where the shooting occurred.
No one in Smiley’s vehicle was injured, Pryor said.
In the second case, Charleston police advised investigators that a man claimed someone shot at his vehicle about the same time outside Club Pulse at Cross County and Dorchester roads.
However, North Charleston police were at the club during that time and said no shooting occurred there.
A passenger told police someone followed the vehicle on Interstate 26, then pulled beside them and began shooting.
The driver drove to Alway Street in Charleston to meet with police and was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina with a gunshot wound to the side.
Both incidents are still under investigation. It is unknown whether the cases are related, Pryor said.
