Lucas McNellis used his home-course knowledge to post a two-shot victory over Christian Woods on Wednesday in the 2012 Al Esposito Junior City Championship at Municipal Golf Course.

McNellis, 16 and a student at James Island Charter High School, shot 2-over-par 74 in the second round and finished the tournament at 146.

Woods, the first-round leader from Summerville, shot 77 and finished three shots ahead of Todd Fanning and Kyle Spencer.

Ansley Vaughan won the girls title with a score of 155.

“Knowing the course definitely made me feel more comfortable,” said McNellis, whose round included two birdies and four bogeys.

“I wanted to play well because it’s my home course. I played solid.

“The week before I was playing terrible and was freaking out but I figured out my swing.”
