Dorchester to hold off tax reassessments?
SUMMERVILLE — Dorchester County’s staff wants to delay the 2014 property tax reassessment for a year until 2015, to give them time to collect data for and test a computer appraisal system.
County Council approved the request in a preliminary vote earlier this week, although Chairman Larry Hargett questioned the need.
Despite the recession and recovery under way, tax reassessment wouldn’t necessarily raise an owner’s tax value or the tax. Different property owners would likely have different outcomes.
