Police seeking two in robbery of West Ashley convenience store
A West Ashley convenience store was robbed of cigarettes and cash early Saturday, Charleston police said.
About 12:50 a.m., police were called to the Kangaroo Express at 1805 Savannah Highway, according to a police incident report.
The clerk told officers that two black men dressed in all-black clothing walked into the store through the Wappoo Road entrance. One of the men pulled out a revolver and demanded that the clerk open the cash register. After he complied, the clerk was ordered to get down on the floor, the report said.
One of the robbers scooped the money out of the register while the other grabbed several packs of Newport cigarettes.
The robbers then ran out of the store toward Wappoo Road and clerk called 911.
Police distributed a still photograph from the store’s surveillance system that shows one of the robbers behind the register. Police said both men were wearing black clothing, with long-sleeved, white shirts underneath.
