A traffic stop on Johns Island landed a 23-year-old man in jail Thursday on cocaine trafficking charges.

A Charleston County deputy pulled over a 2012 Dodge Charger at 1:54 p.m. after spotting the car fail to stay within the yellow lines on Main Road, according to a police report. When he approached the car, the deputy smelled alcohol and found an open beer in the back seat, Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said.

After asking the driver to step from the car, the deputy spotted the front seat passenger moving around, Brady said. When the deputy asked that man to step from the car as well, a plastic baggy with 16.8 grams of cocaine fell from the man’s shorts, he said.

Hakeem Collins of 7968 Savannah Highway in Adams Run was charged with trafficking cocaine in connection with the drugs, which had a street value of $1,680, Brady said. He was being held Friday at the Charleston County jail.
