Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series: 7 a.m. July 29 at James Island County Park. This race series consists of five triathlons held throughout the summer. The sprint triathlon features a 0.3-mile swim, a 12-mile bike ride and a 5K run. Spectators welcome. To register, contact Paul King at 881-8872, or go to cprc.com/csts.
Shaggin’ on the Cooper, Port Authority Band: 7-11 p.m. July 14 at Mount Pleasant Pier. Beach music and shag dancing. Beverages will be available for purchase. Only 800 tickets will be sold; advance purchase is recommended. Fee: $10/$8 CCR Discount/$10 on-site if available.

Folly Pier Fishing Tournament: 6 a.m.-4 p.m. July 21. Tournaments held rain or shine. Prizes for the three largest catches in the Big Fish category and for the largest catch in the King Mackerel category. Online registration ends July 19. On-site registration starts at 6 a.m. Prizes awarded at 4:15 p.m. An adult chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. For ages 3 and up. Reggae Concert Series, Mystic Vibrations: 8-11 p.m. July 21 at James Island County Park. Gates open at 8 p.m., music starts at 8:30 p.m. Food, beverage, and souvenirs will be available for purchase. Outside alcohol and coolers are prohibited. Advance tickets will not be sold. All bands are subject to change. Fee: $8 or 8 Greenbax/Free: Gold Pass Holders and ages 12 and under.
Parks for Tomorrow Public Input Sessions: 7-8:30 p.m. July 24 at Burke High School media center, July 25 at Baptist High School cafeteria, July 26 at St. James-Santee Elementary School cafeteria. These sessions will gather public input on topics including parks, recreation and trails to incorporate into the master plan for the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission. Early Morning Bird Walks at Caw Caw Interpretive Center: 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. July 14, 18, 21, 25, 28. A walk through distinct habitats will allow the group to view and discuss a variety of birds, butterflies and other organisms. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-in registrations are welcome. Intro to Stand Up Paddleboard: 1-3:30 p.m. July 15, 6-7:30 p.m. July 27 at James Island County Park. Small, individualized classes allow you to comfortably progress at your own pace, and introduce you to proper techniques and safety considerations. Pre-registration required. Age: 16 and up. Fee: $24/$20 CCR Discount.
Bird Walks at James Island County Park: 8-10 a.m. July 12. Birding experts will help identify and count songbirds, birds of prey, wading birds and others found in the park’s diverse habitats. A registered chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 9 and up. Free with pre-registration.
Stomp at Caw Caw Interpretive Center: 10-11:30 a.m. July 12. Group will explore and compare different habitats and take a water sample back to the lab for further investigation. There will be parallel sessions for kids ages 4-6 and 7-10. Programs are for children and their registered and paid adult chaperones. Pre-registration required. Age: 4-10. Fee: $5/$4 CCR Discount.
Sea Kayak Instructional Classes: ACA Fundamentals of Coastal Kayaking, Level 3. 6:30-5 p.m. July 12-15. Basic strokes and maneuvers will be covered in this program. You’ll plan a short trip after an evening of classroom instruction and a day on the water. Pre-registration required. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $115/$100 CCR Discount.
Folly Beach Bird Walks at Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve: 7:30-9:30 a.m. July 13: Birding experts help participants explore the surprisingly diverse north end of Folly Beach, looking for songbirds and a variety of seabirds and shorebirds. A registered chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 12 and up. Free with pre-registration.
