EDISTO BEACH — A do-not-swim advisory has been issued for the beach at the end of Yacht Club Road. The reason is fecal bacteria.

The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control advisory is in effect for 200 feet of beach on either side of the road. The beach is at the far southern point of Edisto Beach, where Big Bay Creek empties into St. Helena Sound.

Fecal bacteria is a neutral term for what essentially is animal and human waste. Stormwater runoff normally dumps the bacteria into the water.
