SAVANNAH — Francisco Arcia’s steal of home — his first stolen base of the season — proved to be the difference as the Charleston RiverDogs edged the Savannah Sand Gnats, 3-2, in South Atlantic League baseball Wednesday night.

Charleston (9-5 second half, 48-33 overall) led 2-1 in the fourth inning before Arcia singled with two outs and advanced to third on a single by Cito Culver. With Kelvin De Leon batting, Arcia raced home and Culver took second on a throwing error by second baseman Brandon Brown to make it 3-1.

Savannah (4-10, 45-36) cut the lead to one on a Camden Maron solo homer in the fifth, but RiverDogs relievers Joel De La Cruz and Pedro Guerra tossed four scoreless innings to close out the game.

Ali Castillo had two hits for Charleston, including a two-run single with one out in the third inning to score De Leon and Eduardo Sosa.

RiverDogs starter Bryan Mitchell (6-6) went five innings. De La Cruz relieved, going three scoreless innings before Guerra came on for his third save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Culver also had two hits for the RiverDogs, who face Savannah again at 7 p.m. today.

Aderlin Rodriguez belted his 14th homer of the season for the Sand Gnats in the second inning.
