Two men charged in Crosstown murder denied bail
Two men accused of shooting to death 22-year-old William Nelson near the Crosstown last month were refused bail at a hearing this afternoon.
Dontez Alonzo Wright, 23, and Devin Brandon Middleton, 19, are charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
A Charleston County magistrate set bail at $100,000 on the firearm charge but denied bail on the murder charge.
William Nelson’s father and other family members attended the hearing but did not speak.
The shooting happened about 12:40 a.m. on June 24. Officers found Nelson, 22, lying near the intersection of the Septima Clark Parkway and Line Street.
The Charleston man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Middleton is currently on probation on weapon charges.
Both men are being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
