Police arrested Thomason Bennett (pictured above) and Brittany Bonneau in connection with an armed robbery that happened near Waterfront Park.

Charleston police arrested two people in connection with an armed robbery near Waterfront Park early Tuesday, spokesman Charles Francis said.

The robbery happened about 3:30 a.m. at Exchange and Concord streets, according to an incident report.

Police arrested North Charleston residents Thomason R. Bennett, 21, of Orchid Avenue and Brittany M. Bonneau, 22, of Mendelwood Drive.

Bennett is accused of approaching a man and woman in the intersection of the two streets as they walked back to their vehicle.

The suspect held up the two victims at gunpoint, taking a tan wallet and a cell phone. He then told the victims to run away, the report said.

One victim told police they saw the suspect enter a grey, four-door Mercury with paper tags and drive away toward East Bay Street.

Police located the suspect vehicle on Meeting Street and arrested Bennett and Bonneau.

Bennett has shoplifting and burglary convictions dating back to 2009. Police also charged him with armed robbery for an incident that happened in July 2011. He is still awaiting trial on that charge, according to State Law Enforcement Division records.
