Lifeguard competition

Beach, pool and water park lifeguards from across the state went toe to toe Friday in their 15th annual team competition.

Results

The final standings from the lifeguard competition:



1st Place: Mount Pleasant Recreation 1 – 238 points

2nd Place: Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission 3 – 215

3rd Place: CCPRC 4 – 201

The S.C. Recreation and Parks Association Lifeguard Competition was held at Isle of Palms County Park.

Lifeguards faced off in a variety of life-saving events and demonstrations. Teams ran in and out of the water simulating rescues and competed in fitness tests.

The beach events included a 1-mile run, beach flags, ocean rescues and swims and rescue relays.

The competition continued with pool events at the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department’s R.L. Jones Center pool. Pool events featured team competition in both speed races and lifesaving techniques.

Mount Pleasant Rec 1 took home the trophy.
