Charleston police: Robber couldnt open money drawer at West Ashley Subway
A masked robber tried but failed to pry open a money drawer at a West Ashley restaurant Thursday night, according to the Charleston Police Department.
The attempted robbery to the Subway at 13 Magnolia Road, near Savannah Highway, was reported around 8 p.m., Cpl. Fred Bowie said.
The heavily built black man dressed in black clothes entered a rear door and pointed a gun at the manager, Bowie said. The man was between 22 and 25 years old and about 5-foot-8, Bowie said.
After his unsuccessful attempt to access the cash register, he fled through the rear door.
A short time later, officers stopped and handcuffed two men, an 18-year-old and a 52-year-old, as they rode bicycles on Magnolia Road with a 48-year-old woman. Officers claimed the men fit the suspect’s description.
When they found that the two were not involved in the incident, officers released them.
The identity of the robber remains unknown.
