Michael Kogan, a part-time Charleston resident and professor of religion at Montclair State University in New Jersey, is offering a free, 10-week Bible study course on the Gospel of St. Mark, beginning 7 p.m. Thursday and continuing Thursday evenings throughout the summer, ending Aug. 30.

Each hour-long class will be held at St. Johannes Lutheran Church, 48 Hasell St. The course is open to anyone interested.

The Gospel of Mark is the second book of the New Testament and likely the earliest of the canonical gospels. It shares much in common with the gospels of Luke and Matthew. Together, these three gospels are considered synoptic because of the parallelisms. The Gospel of Mark was written in Greek soon after the Second Temple in jerusalem was destroyed in AD 70.
