COG seeks financing plans for Sea Island Greenway
The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments’ transportation committee voted today to seek alternative financing proposals for the controversial Sea Island Greenway, a road that would bisect Johns Island.
The group voted unanimously to put out a request for proposals for what likely would be a toll road, said committee chairman Elliott Summey.
Summey also is vice chairman of Charleston County Council.
County Council has twice voted against the proposed road, which has much support from residents of the resort islands of Kiawah and Seabrook and much opposition from Johns Island residents.
