Identity of Charleston homicide victim released
Charleston police are investigating a homicide that took place about 12:40 a.m. today near the intersection of the Septima Clark Parkway, also known as the Crosstown, and Line Street.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as William Nelson, 22, of Charleston and said he died of multiple gunshot wounds.
According to a news release from police spokesman Charles Francis, Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
Officers were dispatched to the area after callers reported hearing shots fired in the area.
When police arrived, they found the victim, the release said.
Detectives were canvassing the area gathering information about the incident and suspect information.
