Late Greenville rally buries RiverDogs, 12-6

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Drive scored seven times in the eighth inning to defeat the Charleston RiverDogs, 12-6, on Thursday night in South Atlantic League baseball at Fluor Field in front of a crowd of 6,108.

The RiverDogs (39-29, 0-1 second half) led 6-5 in the eighth before the Drive (35-36, 1-0) retaliated in a big way.

Jose Garcia tripled to start the inning and scored on a single by Drew Turocy to tie the game. Garin Cecchini followed with an RBI double for the go-ahead run. Greenville would tack on five more runs to ice the game.

The RiverDogs trailed 4-3 in the fifth when Tyler Austin doubled in Mason Williams to tie the game, then took a 6-4 lead on an RBI double by Angelo Gumbs and an RBI single by Kelvin De Leon.

Williams had two hits, including a homer, for the RiverDogs.

The teams play at 7 p.m. today with Charleston right-hander Wilton Rodriguez (1-2, 6.23 ERA) against Greenville right-hander Jason Garcia (1-4, 6.95).
