Uncle Sam Jam: 7-11 p.m. July 4 at Mount Pleasant Pier. View firework displays throughout the Lowcountry, as you dance to live classic oldies and beach music performed by Permanent Vacation. Beverages will be available for purchase. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. A registered and paid chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. Sprint Triathlon Series: 7 a.m. July 8 and 29 at James Island County Park. Now in its 22nd year, this race series consists of five triathlons held throughout the summer. The sprint triathlon features a 0.3-mile swim, a 12-mile bike ride and a 5K run. Spectators welcome. To register, contact Paul King at 881-8872, or go to cprc.com/csts.
Summer Classic Horse Shows: Events throughout the day July 11-15 and 17-21 at Mullet Hall Equestrian Center on Johns Island. This AA-rated hunter/jumper horse show hosted by the Classic Company is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Open to spectators. More information at 768-5503 or classiccompany.com.
Shaggin’ on the Cooper, Port Authority Band: 7-11 p.m. July 14 at Mount Pleasant Pier. Beach music and shag dancing at the foot of the Mount Pleasant Pier. Beverages will be available for purchase. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. Fee: $10/$8 CCR Discount/$10 on-site if available.

Fishing Tournament: 6 a.m.-4 p.m. July 21 at Folly Beach Fishing Pier. Tournaments held rain or shine. Prizes for the three largest catches in the Big Fish category and for the largest catch in the King Mackerel category. Online registration ends July 19. On-site registration starts at 6 a.m. Prizes awarded at 4:15 p.m. An adult chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. For ages 3 and up. Reggae Concert Series: 8-11 p.m. July 21 at James Island County Park. Gates open at 8 p.m., music starts at 8:30 p.m. Food, beverage and souvenirs will be available for purchase. Outside alcohol and coolers are prohibited. Advance tickets will not be sold. All bands are subject to change. Fee: $8 or 8 Greenbax/Free: Gold Pass Holders and ages 12 and under.
Parks for Tomorrow Public Input Sessions: 7-8:30 p.m. July 24 at Burke High School media center, July 25 at Baptist High School cafeteria on Yonge’s Island, July 26 at St. James-Santee Elementary School cafeteria in McClellanville. These sessions will gather public input on topics including parks, recreation and trails to incorporate into the master plan for the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission. Moonlight Mixer: 7-11 p.m. July 27 at Folly Beach Fishing Pier. DJ Jim Bowers of 1340 The Boardwalk will play all of the hottest beach music classics. Explorers Camp, Here Today, Here Tomorrow: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. July 2-6 at Wannamaker County Park. If we are creating trash today, it will be here tomorrow. We will learn how recycling can help to reduce our impact on the environment and that it can be fun too. Camp also includes field games and the water park. Age: 6-9. Fee: $154/$140 CCR Discount.
Birds of Prey: 10-11 a.m. July 3 at Cypress Hall at Wannamaker County Park, 10-11 a.m. July 5 at James Island County Park Edisto Hall. This presentation will highlight South Carolina birds. Best suited for ages 3-12. Seating begins at 9:30 a.m. and shows start at 10 a.m. Only 300 seats will be sold for each show. Call to make a group reservation for 10 or more, call (843) 795-4386. Charleston Harbor Full Moon Paddle: 5:30-8:30 p.m. July 3. The group will paddle from Sunrise Park to Wappoo Cut Boat Landing, while the full moon rises. Pre-registration required. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $36/$30 CCR Discount.
How to Belay: 6-8 p.m. July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 at the James Island County Park Climbing Wall. Learn to belay in this abbreviated version of our popular Introduction to Climbing class. Pre-registration required. Age: 14 & up. Fee: $12/$10 CCR Discount.
Sunset/Moonrise Paddle: 7-9 p.m. July 3 at Caw Caw Interpretative Center. Witness the sun as it slips below the trees of Caw Caw Swamp and watch the moonrise over Tea Farm Creek. A registered and paid chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. Pre-registration required. Age: 9 and up. Fee: $15/$12 CCR Discount
Surf Seining: 5-6 p.m. July 6 at Beachwalker Park. Gain a new perspective on creatures of the surf zone. A registered and paid chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. Pre-registration required. Age: 6 and up. Fee: $9/$7 CCR Discount
Introduction to Climbing: 9 a.m.-noon July 7 at the Climbing Wall at James Island County Park. Participants will learn about gear, basic knots, technique and how to belay. Pre-registration required. Age: 14 and up. Fee: $24/$20 CCR Discount.
Sea Kayak Trips:. 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. July 8. Departing from the IOP Marina the group will explore Morgan Creek and head out to Dewees Inlet for some beach combing. For our return trip, the group can paddle back the way they came or take the Intracoastal Waterway. Pre-registration required. Age: 16 and up. Fee: $48/$40 CCR Discount
Stand-Up Paddleboard: 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. July 8. The group will hike through the salt marshes behind Folly Island. The three-hour tour is recommended for those who already have the basics of SUPing or have a moderate to high level of athleticism. Pre-registration required. Age: 16 and up. Fee: $36/$30 CCR Discount.
Explorers Camp: Weather Wizards. 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. July 9-13 at Wannamaker County Park. Participants will learn more about the atmosphere and how severe storms are created, plus play field games and attend the water park. Pre-registration required. Age: 6-9. Fee: $154/$140 CCR Discount.
