Tennessee troopers are investigating a crash Wednesday morning that killed a North Charleston woman and injured her husband.

Patricia Diane Guenther, 20, of Elms Plantation Boulevard, died after the car she was riding in crashed along Interstate 40 in Cocke County, Tenn., according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Guenther was a passenger in a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by her husband, Dustin Michael Guenther, 21, an accident report stated.

The car was traveling westbound on the interstate when it went off the left side of the road, swerved back onto the roadway and crashed into a cable barrier. The impact caused the car to roll several times, the report stated.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Travis Raines told The News Sentinel in Knoxville that it appeared Dustin Guenther fell asleep behind the wheel before the crash. He was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, the newspaper reported.

The Guenthers were wearing seatbelts when the crash occurred.
