Ex-Charleston Southern pitcher Tyler Thornburg expected to make MLB debut tonight
Former Charleston Southern pitcher Tyler Thornburg is expected to make his Major League Baseball debut tonight for the Milwaukee Brewers, various outlets are reporting today.
Thornburg, a third-round draft pick in 2010, is 8-1 with a 3.00 earned run average this season for the Brewer’ Class AA team in Huntsville, Ala. He was set to pitch in the Southern League All-Star game tonight.
But with Brewers pitcher Shaun Marcum sidelined with a sore elbow, the club needs an emergency starter for tonight’s game against visiting Toronto, set for 8:10 p.m.
That pitcher will be Thornburg, reports indicate, though the Brewers had yet to announce a starter as of early this afternoon.
