Charleston City Council tonight approved adding a cycling and recreational pedestrian lane to the loop that goes around Hampton Park.

The road will include one 11-foot lane for vehicles, a five-foot-wide bike lane and a four-foot buffer.

Walkers and runners will be relegated to a three-foot section closest to the inside.

The effort had stalled after officials requested a better defined travel path that wouldn’t leave a danger between cars and people moving along the inside lane of Mary Murray Boulevard.
