CHARLESTON -- A Democratic group is calling on the party faithful to rally behind their newly minted nominee in South Carolina’s new 7th congressional district.

The SC New Democrats on Saturday said the party should support Gloria Bromell Tinubu’s quest to represent the new district in the U.S. House.

On Friday, the state Election Commission certified Bromell Tinubu’s victory in the June 12 primary.

Supporters of second-place finisher Preston Brittain are suing to force a runoff, arguing that votes for a candidate who had withdrawn from the race but remained on the ballot should have been counted in determining if a runoff was necessary.

Former Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer and Horry County Council Chairman Tom Rice compete in a GOP runoff on June 26.
