Dorchester County Sheriff L.C. Knight defeated former sheriff’s deputy Mike Turner to hold onto his office.
Knight received more than 61 percent of the vote in unofficial results.
The winner is almost certain to be elected in November. No Democrat has filed to run.
Knight could not be reached for comment. He thanked supporters at a get-together at Miler Country Club.
Only about 10,000 people voted in a county with more than 84,000 registered voters.
“It was a strong race. The low voter turnout, I believe, affected me,” said Turner, who called his campaign a grassroots effort.
