A woman apparently survived a jump from the Ravenel Bridge Sunday afternoon.
The 57-year-old woman stopped her car in the southbound lane of the bridge, got out and jumped over the side of the bridge shortly before 12:30 p.m., Mount Pleasant Police Sgt. Greg Horton said.
She hit the water about 50 feet from the pier at Mount Pleasant Memorial Park. A man who was on the pier grabbed a life preserver, jumped in the water and started swimming toward her. Two people in a boat maneuvered near her, pulled her out of the water and took her back to shore, Horton said.
The woman was drifting in and out of consciousness on shore but appeared to be going into shock, Horton said. Rescue workers stabilized her and transported her to a local hospital shortly after 1 p.m., he said.
