Early outburst sends Greenville past RiverDogs, 10-4

GREENVILLE — Blake Swihart drove in five runs for the Greenville Drive as they beat the Charleston RiverDogs, 10-4, on Saturday night in South Atlantic League baseball at Fluor Field in front of a crowd of 6,229.

Greenville (29-26) scored four runs off RiverDogs starter Scottie Allen (1-4) in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run triple by Drew Turocy.

Swihart’s bases-loaded triple in the third made it 7-0 against the RiverDogs (33-22).

Gary Sanchez had a two-run homer in the fourth for Charleston, his sixth homer in the last eight games. Angelo Gumbs followed with a triple and scored on a single by Reymond Nunez to cut the lead to 7-3.

Charleston cut it to three on an RBI groundout by Nunez, but could get no closer.

The fourth and final game of the series is at 4 p.m. today. Right-hander Will Oliver (1-2, 4.38 ERA) will pitch for the RiverDogs against Drive right-hander Madison Younginer (1-5, 5.17 ERA).
