Ashley Ridge pitcher Austin Livingston, who led the Swamp Foxes to the Class AAAA state championship, heads up the local players named to the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association’s all-state teams.

Livingston is the only local player named to the Class AAAA team. Zach Wimmer of Cane Bay is the only local player on the Class AAA team.

Ryan Maksim of Bishop England and Hanahan’s Skylar Hunter and Ryan Manore were named to the Class AA all-state team.

The Hawks’ Brian Mitchell was the Class AA coach of the year.

The coaches’ association also announced the all-star teams.

Livingston and Hunter were picked to play in the South Carolina vs. North Carolina Select Game.

Ashley Ridge’s Lorenzo Wright, James Island’s Ryan Stone and Summerville’s Stephen Windham were named to the South Class AAAA-A all-star team.

Wimmer and Timberland’s Bobby Jackson were named to the South Class AAA-AA team.

The all-star games will be played June 15-17 in Myrtle Beach.

Softball starsThe Coaches Association of Women’s Sports released its all-state and all-star softball teams.

Summerville, Wando and Ashley Ridge all landed two players on the Class AAAA team. The Green Wave’s picks are Sarah Montei and Kaitlyn Clark.

Wando’s picks are Danica Newton and Nicole Pellegrini, and Ashley Ridge placed Paige Deschaine and Aubrey Rabun on the team. Megan Johnson of Stratford also made the all-state team.

Berkeley had two players make the Class AAA team: Kinsey Shealy and Roneisha Shields.

Hanahan and Bishop England both have two players on the Class AA team. The Hawks’ picks are Ashley Cox and Alison Adams, while the Bishops selections are Sophie Berq and Eran Artigues.

Macey Gatlin of Timberland also made the team.

Tiffany Rollison of Cross was named to the Class AA team.

Pellegrini, Montei, Clark and Deschaine were named to the South Class AAAA-A team.

West Ashley’s Bobby Marion will coach the team.

Cox and Gatlin will play on the South Class AAA-AA team.

Bishop England’s Mark Pender is co-coach of the team.

The games will be played June 13-14 in Aiken.

Gallagher to SMCBerkeley pitcher Garrett Gallagher has signed to play for Spartanburg Methodist.

He was 8-3 as a senior with a 1.23 ERA to lead Berkeley to a 20-9 record and an appearance in the Lower State Championship Series.

He is the fourth local player who announced their intention to play for SMC.

The others are James Island’s Josh Escoffier, Summerville’s Matt White and Cane Bay’s Quinton Cable.
