House Ethics Committee to reopen Haley investigation
COLUMBIA — The House Ethics Committee unanimously voted this evening to reopen an investigation into whether Gov. Nikki Haley illegally lobbied while she was a House member from Lexington.
The committee plans to call witnesses to testify at a public hearing.
Committee members earlier this month voted to dismiss the allegations against Haley made by GOP fundraiser John Rainey.
An attorney for Haley unsuccessfully argued at today’s committee meeting that the committee could not legally reopen its investigation.
Rep. Joan Brady, R-Columbia, said she will hold off on her planned motion seeking to send the complaint against Haley to S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson’s office until after the public hearing.
