Sen. Graham meeting with Charleston military base defenders today
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham will be in Charleston today to continue his warnings of what the looming automatic budget cuts will mean to national security and South Carolina’s defense infrastructure.
Graham is meeting with Joint Base Charleston and other local military leadership at Charleston Air Force Base before traveling to the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce for a meeting with the Military Policy Council, local elected officials and other community leaders.
The automatic triggers of the sequestration provisions on the Budget Control Act will force across- the-board cuts in domestic and military spending of $1.2 billion over 10 years.
Graham will also make stops in Greenville, Beaufort, Sumter, Eastover, and Columbia.
Currently, the economic footprint of military spending in South Carolina is an estimated $13 billion each year.
