SWAT calm domestic disturbance in Mount Pleasant, remove several firearms

MOUNT PLEASANT -The Mount Pleasant police SWAT team was called out to a Linksland Road home early today after a man reportedly threatened to harm his wife during a domestic dispute.

The incident ended with the husband’s arrest and the removal of several guns from the residence, police said.

According to a report, the victim’s husband attacked her at their Linksland Road home around 1:30 a.m. while she was trying to go to bed. The suspect allegedly “grabbed her and held her down” while restraining her hands with what the victim believed to be rope.

The woman told police her husband placed black electrical tape on her mouth. The victim asked the suspect to stop, but he replied with “Be quiet, shut up, I can snap your neck,” the report states.

The victim managed to get away from the suspect, police said. She told her 20-year-old son, who was also at the home, to watch the suspect while she drove to the police department, report stated.

The victim told police her husband was recently released from Medical University Hospital after undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. She told police she believed the suspect was on a new medication that caused him to act “strange,” including heavy sweating and trouble breathing, the report states.

The SWAT team arrived at the home and took the suspect into custody. James Michael Dolan, 54, is charged with criminal domestic violence-first offense. He is at the Charleston County jail awaiting a bail hearing.

Police seized 20 guns from the home, including shotguns, pistols and at least one military-style rifle, a report stated.
