Greenville outslugs RiverDogs, 15-10

Garin Cecchini had five hits and five RBIs and Greenville used an eight-run third inning in a 15-10 win over Charleston in South Atlantic League baseball Saturday night in front of 4,081 at Riley Park.

The Drive (24-24) scored three times in the first, but Charleston (31-17) retaliated by scoring on an RBI single by Tyler Austin in the bottom of the inning, then scoring three times in the second to take a 4-1 lead after a two-run homer by Reymond Nunez and an RBI single by Cito Culver.

Greenville broke the game open the next inning.

Twelve men came to the plate in the third with the first eight batters reaching. Greenville had eight hits in the inning with seven different players picking up an RBI to make it 11-4.

The RiverDogs cut the lead to three in the seventh on an RBI double by Ben Gamel and a three-run homer by Angelo Gumbs, but got no closer.

Ballpark fun
Possibly the best sumo wrestling match of the year took place on the field between the third and fourth innings.

Coming up
Charleston and Greenville end the series today at 5:05 pm. The probables are right-hander Bryan Mitchell (4-2, 2.53 ERA) for the RiverDogs and righty Yeiper Castillo (4-1, 3.43 ERA) for the Drive.

Mascots from the Charleston area will be on hand for Mascot Mania. They will participate in a kickball match, a mascot parade, signing autographs and performing a danceoff. It is also Family Sunday with free parking. Kids eat free, and a pre-game catch on the field will be held, as will Reading with a RiverDog and postgame autographs.
