While most spectators at the Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s Piccolo Spoleto Custom House Concert left pleased, Ralph Hurley walked away with a particularly huge smile on his face.
Hurley was the winner of a new 2012 Lexus IS 250C.
The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League raffled off the car to raise money for the coming year. Tickets sold for $100 each, with a guarantee that the number of tickets sold would be capped at 1,000.
While the tickets didn’t sell out, supporters purchased about 850. The League considered the event a success. Caroline Thibault, outgoing president of the League, said the raffle raised approximately $40,000.
Hurley, a Charleston resident, purchased just one of those 850 tickets. “I try to buy a ticket every year,” he said. “I like to support the orchestra and the community.”
