GREENSBORO, N.C. — Branden Cogswell walked with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, and Virginia rallied to beat Clemson 3-2 in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference baseball tournament.

The fourth-seeded Cavaliers (38-15-1) erased a 2-1 deficit Thursday by manufacturing two runs in that inning. They loaded the bases with two outs and Chris Taylor was hit by a pitch from Mike Kent to force in the tying run.

Scott Firth then relieved Kent and walked Cogswell on five pitches to bring home the go-ahead run.

Jon McGibbon homered and Brad Felder gave fifth-seeded Clemson (32-25) its one-run lead when he scored on an error in the top of the eighth.

Jared King had an RBI single in the third for Virginia.
