Dishon Donita President arrested, another man sought in car break-ins

Police say a car abandoned during a chase last week contained evidence linking two Summerville men to car break-ins in the Daniel Island section of Charleston.

One of the suspects has been arrested, and the other is being sought, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said.

He said the break-ins took place May 18 and 19 on Euclid Drive, Peninsula Drive and River Bay Lane. All of the vehicles apparently were unlocked,

On Wednesday, police arrested Dishon Donita President, 20, of Oak Haven Place. He is charged with four counts of breaking into a motor vehicle and two counts of petit larceny, and is being held in the Cannon Detention Center.

Police issued arrest warrants for Travis Malone Hoard, 19, of Thornton Drive, charging him with the same offenses as President. Hoard is on probation for possession of cocaine and unlawful carrying of a pistol, Francis said.

Francis said evidence linked to the car break-ins was found after an officer tried to make a traffic stop May 19 on Clements Ferry Road. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, and the car was found abandoned on Clements Crest Lane with the engine still running.

In the vehicle, police found a laptop computer, a GPS device, a cell phone, an iPod and four credit cards, all thought to have been stolen. Investigators were able to identify President and Hoard as the suspects in the car break-ins, Francis said.

He said investigators returned the stolen property to the owners.
