Clemson announces starting pitchers for ACC Tournament; Brady available in relief
CLEMSON — Clemson baseball coach Jack Leggett said Tuesday Daniel Gossett will start Clemson’s opening ACC Tournament game at 11 a.m. Thursday against No. 17 Virginia (36-16, 18-12 ACC) in Greensboro, N.C.
Dominic Leone will follow Friday against No. 1 Florida State (43-12, 24-6) and Kevin Pohle will starting Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech (32-24, 12-18).
Gossett is coming off an impressive start Saturday at Wake Forest where he allowed two runs over 71/3 innings, striking out seven for Clemson (32-24, 16-14).
Gossett is needed in the rotation because ace Kevin Brady is not ready to return to a starting assignment. Leggett said Brady will be available to pitch in the ACC Tournament but he’s unlikely to start a game as he is building up his stamina following a hamstring issue that caused him to miss three weeks.
Brady threw one inning in relief at Wake Forest.
Clemson will face Virginia’s Branden Kline (6-3, 3.89 ERA) in the first game and Florida State starter Brandon Leibrandt (6-2, 2.93) on Friday. Georgia Tech has not named a starting pitcher for Saturday’s game.
