The Glass Onion restaurant and other parts of Charleston’s food scene will be first at bat in a new television show, “Road Trip With G. Garvin” premiering at 9 p.m. Tuesday on the Cooking Channel.

The show’s host, Gerry Garvin, better known as “G.,” is a veteran television chef. His television series, “Turn Up the Heat with G. Garvin” ran for seven seasons.

Garvin also has authored a number of books, beginning with the cookbook “Turn Up the Heat with G. Garvin” (Meredith Books, 2006) and more recently “Dining In” and “Answers to a Young Culinarian.”

The Atlanta native, raised by a single mother, started working in restaurants as a teen. He rose through the ranks, including top-tier hotels such as the Ritz-Carlton, and trained in Europe in his early 20s. During the 1990s, he served as executive chef at Morton’s.

While in Charleston, Garvin drops by The Glass Onion on Savannah Highway to make a local favorite, pork belly sandwich. He also visits Cakes by Kasarda on Rivers Avenue to prepare a groomsmen cake shaped like a beer bucket. Garvin hooks up with a local company, Barrier Island Eco-Tours, for a waterways exploration, capped off by a Charleston feast before sunset.
