College of Charleston center fielder Marty Gantt was named the Southern Conference baseball player of the year by the league’s media today.
Gantt was joined on the first team of the all-SoCon squad by Cougars pitcher Christian Powell.
C of C pitchers Matt Pegler and Kyle Owings made the second team, along with third baseman Rob Harding and shortstop Bradley Goodson.
Gantt, a senior from North Augusta, hit .349 with 10 home runs and 40 runs batted-in for the Cougars, leading the team to a share of the SoCon regular-season title. He was also named player of the year by the league’s coaches.
College of Charleston will face The Citadel in the first round of the SoCon Tournament at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greenville.
