Police charge 2 men with armed robbery
Charleston police arrested Anthony Donnell Brown, 25, of Meeting Street, and Jeffery Bernard Simmons, 43, of North Enston Avenue, in connection with an armed robbery on Archdale Street on Friday night.
Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said a man, whom he did not name, was punched and robbed of his wallet and cellphone by two men as he was walking to a friend’s house after work.
The man reported being confronted by the two men, Francis said. One of the two men allegedly punched him, and the other took his wallet and cellphone. The victim went to a friend’s house where someone called police.
In their search for two suspects, police stopped Brown and Simmons, but during the interview they fled, Francis said, throwing the victim’s property to the ground as they ran away.
The men were apprehended a short time later at Meeting and Pinckney streets, he said, and both were charged with armed robbery.
