Wake Forest tops Clemson in baseball Thursday
Wake Forest scored all of five of its runs in the third and fourth innings for a 5-2 victory over Clemson in front of 648 fans at Wake Forest on Thursday night.
The two teams will meet today in the second game of the series.
Clemson starting pitcher Dominic Leone allowed five runs, four earned, in seven innings. Clemson’s usualy No. 1 starter, Kevin Brady, was unable to start due to a hamstring injury.
The Demon Deacons hit five singles in the third inning to score three runs, and in the fourth Pat Blair ripped a two-run double off of Leone.
Clemson’s Richie Shaffer laced a two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning, but it was not enough for Clemson, who outhit Wake Forest 7-6.
Wake improved to 30-22 overall and 11-17 in the ACC. The Tigers fell to 32-22 overall and 16-12 in ACC play.
