Two unearned runs cost Citadel in 2-1 loss to Elon in baseball
ELON, N.C. — The Citadel’s Austin Pritcher was outdueled by Elon’s Dylan Clark as the Phoenix capitalized on two errors to score two unearned runs to win, 2-1, in Southern Conference baseball Wednesday.
Pritcher (6-5) threw his second complete game of the season for the Bulldogs (24-29, 13-15 SoCon), striking out five over eight innings.
Clark (9-3) was slightly better for the Phoenix (29-24, 18-10). Elon’s starter went 81/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Nate Young got the final two outs for his ninth save.
Elon went ahead in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Quinn Bower.
Nick Orvin went 2 for 4 to lead the Bulldogs. Grant Richards had the lone RBI on a sacrifice fly.
The teams meet for Game 2 of the series today at 6:30 p.m.
