The Citadel has hired Quinton Ferrell as assistant coach and Matt Sherbenski as director of basketball operations, head coach Chuck Driesell announced today.

Ferrell comes to the Bulldogs after five years as an assistant at his alma mater, Presbyterian, where he helped the Blue Hose post wins over Auburn, Wake Forest and Cincinnati over the past two years.

Ferrell, who played point guard for the Blue Hose, graduated in May 2007 with a bachelor of science degree in accounting.

“I am excited to have Quinton join our staff, as he comes to us very highly recommended,” said Driesell. “He has established himself over the past five years as a tireless recruiter and has gained a great deal of respect from his peers. Most important, Quinton is a quality person with a strong work ethic.”

Scherbenski spent last season at California, where he worked for former Citadel assistant Mike Montgomery. He was a walk-on player at Kentucky after starting his career at Oral Roberts. He played in high school at Oak Hill Academy.

“I was most impressed with Matt’s enthusiasm and love for the game and players,” Driesell said. He is a high energy guy, like myself, and I am confident he will be a great addition to the program.”
